‘Rakista’ (Battle of the Bands)

About 38 Local bands in Zamboanga participated in the Rakista Zamboanga “Battle of the Bands” on October 7-11,2012 at Plaza Del Pilar, 7 p.m. The event started off with 9 competing bands from different schools and organizations in the city. Then also the following day until October 10, 2012 but with different number of competing bands each day. This period is considered to be the elimination round of the contest.

Three bands will be chosen to compete with each other on the grand finals on October 11, 2012, whose production will be a woodstock king of show. Criteria is as follows: 30% Originality, 25% Showmanship, 20% Musical Ability and 25% Viewers Choice is the used criteria for judging the finals. Each band that participated are composed of four to seven members. Each band that participated will render two songs: first a cover song of their choice the second would be an original chavacano composition. The Major winners of this competition will be awarded cash prizes and trophies and also Special Awards like Best Vocalist and Best Guitarist. The Grand Champion will given a big opportunity to record their winning song at Amistad Media Productions a professional Recording Studio.

This activity is part of the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival that is celebrated annually. “Rakista” aims to promote the chavacano dialect through music of different genres; except heavy metal rock.
