12/2010 With patch 1.4 a number of add-ons need to
be upgraded. Be on the lookout to upgrade to
the latest version or find a substitute add-on
to do the same task if needed.
Greetins! With the hundreds of add-ons out there at
curse.com alone ah thought it might be useful to select
a few for you to review!
Setting add-ons up is super easy. Follow the instructions
for manual install on the curse.com site. Altogether it
takes maybe 1 minute, ask anyone for help if you need it.
(1) download
(2) double click to unzip
(3) drag the add-on into the right folder
Remember that with the big new patches you will want to
look for updated versions of your favorite ones on
curse.com (or wherever) as sometimes a new patch
will break an add-on.
cramthespam This (or autoignore) vastly reduce gold
selling spam.
You should try both autoignore and the
add-on cramthespam for a few days each
and see which you like most.
Cramthespam does have a bit less
maintenance to do for the ignore list, but
at the cost of more self-generated spam.
Note that every once in a while you'll want to
check your ignore list to make sure you have
not put someone on ignore you didn't intend.
To give you a sense, in a month I've put two
people on ignore I didn't intend to.
autoignore This one is no longer being kept up to date
as well as cramthespam so I would lean
in the direction of cramthespam.
This (or cramthespam) vastly reduce gold
selling spam.
Autoignore generates less of its own spam
than the alternatives but you may have to
make room on your ignore list more than
with cramthespam.
Note that every once in a while you'll want to
check your ignore list to make sure you have
not put someone on ignore you didn't intend.
To give you a sense, in a month I've put two
people on ignore I didn't intend to.
spambayes I am impressed by how much more recent
this add-on has been updated compared to
the other spam reducers which is always
a good sign.
Here you "teach" it what you consider spam
and supposedly after maybe 15-20 times
teaching it what you consider spam it just
knows most of it going forward.
However, what "spam" gets ignored you have
to be careful of. Some "spam" might be
messages you may not consider spam.
SoR This used to be a must have for all players.
"State of the Realms" used to be WAR Report
on steroids .. it was the quickest way to know
what battles were going on where.
Patch 1.4 changed oRvR calculations so much
that it's value has been greatly reduced. For
knowing time left on a city siege it is still a must
have in my opinion, but it is a shadow of it's
previous add-on importance.
squared This or the other similar healing add-ons can
really help healers out. Healgrid is another
one but I haven't tested mahself.
Squared has already had its 1.4 patch upgrade.
group icons Gives you a way to get a sense where your
group members are at a glance, for example
in a multigroup scenario.
Many auras and skills are group related and
in some circumstances you are expected to
stay with your group, like splitting up BO's
among groups for city siege. This can help
you do this.
loyalpet Consider using this if you have a pet, including
turrets. Rumored to allow you to force flame
turret to actually AoE as primary attack for
example.
Use this: /lpet gui
twister Considered a "must have" by many for kotbs,
this add on makes it much easier to have more
auras to be on at the same time. In short, this
helps the kotbs to focus on fun without worrying
about constantly spamming auras.
closet goblin Makes it easier and quicker to swap armor
for example from RvR to a PvE set.
For example, if you are a tank you'll want to
eventually acquire two sets, one for RvR and
one for PvE. A T4 PvE tank set is designed
to reduce critical hits to himself to near to
or preferably zero and is mostly focused on
big hit damage reduction. Toughness is not
as useful as other protections in most T4
instance/dungeon environments.
If you have any ideas for other favorite add-ons, or
have any comments about any I chose out of the
hundreds out there, let me know! See "Contact
Dwooid" on the sidebar for contact info.
