CC refers to the spells and methods of handling multiple
monsters or other enemy players at the same time.
CC is the common term used for "Command and Control"
of monsters.
In Rift you'll want to familiarize yourself with the main CC
terms as they will be used a lot, and if you are a rogue
or mage you may be depended on to use.
The main types of CC in Rift are:
(1) "Squirrel" as in "Squirrel that caster"
This refers to some mages ability to turn a mob
into a squirrel, more importantly rendering him
unable to do much for a short time other than
gather nuts and gnaw on sticks.
(2) "Sap" as in "Sap the one on the right"
This is the classic mmo stunning skill used by
rogues in this case in Rift for the same effect
of rendering a mob unable to fight for a short
time.
(3) "L-O-S" as in "L-O-S the boss everytime she.."
Line of Sight (LoS) is a surprisingly underutilized
tool in dungeons. When asked to "L-O-S a boss"
you are really being asked to stand somewhere
that the boss doesn't have a direct line of sight to
you usually for a short period of time. If you are
asked to do this at work to your real boss .. you
should probably look for another job.
(4) "Snare" or "Root" as in "Snare the sentry"
This is of course the classic snare/root that
stops or slows a mob. Near the start of Lantern
Hook dungeon are sentries that if not snared
can go get help and many more mobs will
descend on you.
(5) "Kite" as in "Kite that boss!"
To call this a CC skill is a bit of a stretch but I'll
throw it in here. This is the classic action of
using special speed skills to keep ahead of a
boss while moving, and many bosses while
moving don't cast their most destructive spells.
Meanwhile, often other members of the team
are dpsing (damaging .. a use of the term
damage per second) it down.
Lots of people know how to kite, not many are
tremendously skilled at combining skills and
micromanaging the most difficult kiting.
