Social Events at Woodlands 2013

Woodlands Golf Day, 3rd May 2013

Woodlands 1st Golf Day, held at Hill Barn Golf course on May 3rd 2013. We had 14 take part including friends & family of members. The event was very well organised by David Parr who sorted out the teams & the handicaps for the day.

The course was in beautiful condition, the weather was perfect, sunshine all day & considering the awful weather we had had recently it was a miracle. We Played a Texas Scramble which made it so much better for those of us that hardly ever play & by the end of the day there was only 5 shots difference between the first & last teams.

The winning team was captained by John (Captain Marvel) Rowlands who had a magnificent round, Andy Bayford who had some wonderful shots even if some found the bunkers & gave great encouragement to those who could not hit the ball straight, Paul Robinson (who we called Whacker) who played some great shots & then Dave (Hacker) Richardson who the team could not believe they had been landed with, such a poor player, but like all things came good at the end.

The team were also managed by Barbara Bayford as she drove the buggy around supplying us with biscuits & telling us what we ought to be doing. After we had showered we had a meal & the prizes were presented.

A great day, & so well organised by David Parr. Maybe our team will put out the challenge to the others next year!!

CLUB ANNUAL DINNER, 11th Oct 2013

Some 47 members with families and friends met at the Vardar Restaurant in Littlehampton for the Club's annual dinner. During the evening David Richardson made a presentation to Lawrie Fountain on the occasion of his 80th birthday. Those attending were excellently entertained by the singer Lee Everitt with a programme of songs of different styles and time zones.

Thanks were expressed to Jon Roberts for organising the event so efficiently.

South Downs Way Walk, 20th Oct 2013

Some 18 members and family and friends joined Ken and Julie Line for a club walk setting off from The George and Dragon at Burpham with most joining Ken for a 7 mile trek northwards towards the South Downs Way. The walk was mainly on paths or bridleways and fortunately the weather was kind. One feature of the walk was the sighting of Red Kites. Some who did not fancy such a long walk were led by Julie on a less strenuous path.

Thanks are due to Ken and Julie for organising what is becoming a regular activity within the club

CONTRIBUTION TO CHARITY, 25th Dec 2013

In the period leading up to Christmas Members were asked not to send Christmas cards to each other at the Club but instead to donate monies to assist in emergency work in connection with the Phillipines disaster. A total of £175.00 was raised for this purpose which reflects great credit on all concerned.
