Club News at Woodlands 2017/18
Open Singles Competition
The Woodlands Open Singles competition was played on 16th May at Rustington. The format was slightly different from previous years and consisted of a Round Robin of four groups of five players who played against each other, with the group winner and group runner up each qualifying for the semi-finals. In addition there was a play-off for third place between the losing two semi finalists.
We witnessed some fine table tennis during the evening, with the best two players on the night deservedly reaching the final. Although it was a hard-fought final with some great shot-making, Jarek Klamut proved just too strong for the runner up Kris Pokorowski , winning the best of five sets 11-7, 11-7, 11-9. Congratulations to Jarek for a fine win.
The third place play-off resulted in victory for Chris Newberry, who beat Laurie Fountain 12-10, 11-6.
