Smrti Irani is the former model, television actress, producer and MP. She is mainly recognised for her role of 'Tulsi' in the serial Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. She has also worked shows like Kya Hadsaa Kya Haqeeqat, Kuch Diiil Se, Ramayan and many more. She represents the state of Gujarat as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha. She is the current Minister of Textiles Department in the Government of India.
Actress Smriti was born on 23 March 1976 in New Delhi into a Punjabi-Bengali family. Her father has his own courier company. She is eldest among the three sisters. Her grandfather was an RSS swayamsevak and her mother a member of Jana Sangh. As per the latest reports, Smriti Irani is soon going to be back on television. She is all set to make her comeback with Ekta Kapoor's next finite venture on Star Plus. The series will be based on the life of a Politian, who will be falsely accused of being involved into a scam. How she deals with it and emerges victorious forms the rest of the story. The series will also explore the dark side of politics and how a woman fights it all to safeguard her integrity.
After a long career in television, Smriti had joined politics in 2003 representing Bharatiya Janta Party(BJP). Her qualities made her Vice-President of BJP's youth wing in Maharashtra along with National Executive of the state. Apart from that she is also a social worker and has formed her own NGO called People For Change which provides clean drinking water to villages. In early 2010, she was appointed National Secretary of BJP and on 24 June, she was appointed All India President of the BJP's women's wing, BJP Mahila Morcha. In August 2011, she was sworn in as a member of parliament from Gujarat to the Rajya Sabha. On 26 May 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appointed her as the Minister of Human Resource Development in his cabinet. In July 2016, She was appointed as the Minister of Textiles Department in the Government of India.
Smriti Irani started her career as a model with Femina Miss India competition. Initially, her father did not supported her decision but with her mother's support she cleared to the finals in the competition. She applied in several auditions for MTV and other production houses and got to host a show on Star Plus called Bakeman's Oo La La where Ekta Kapoor saw and introduced her after 3 months as Tulsi of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. She played Tulsi for a long time and later she started her own production house called Ugraya Entertainment Pvt Ltd. Smriti got married to Zubin Irani in the year 2001. She gave birth to a boy Zohr in october 2001 and to a girl Zoish in September, 2003. Zubin is a Zoroastrian and Smriti is her second wife, Mona Irani being the first. Smriti is also step-mother to Shanelle, daughter of Zubin and Mona.
Smriti has worked as burger flipper at McDonalds, Mumbai. She did her school education from Holy Child Auxilium School. After that pursued her higher education through correspondence. She has done ad films and also anchored the show 'Filmi Batein'. In 2006 she turned producer for shows like Thodi Si Zameen Thoda Sa Aasmaan, Virrudh, Mere Apne, Waaris and Maniben.com.
