WRF Scoop

6/9/17: What a fabulous weekend we had at the Elk Creek Combined Driving Event in Maryland! Heather took Noble B and Lou took Rex. The weather was perfect and a fantastic time was had by all. Check out some pictures below!

5/31/17: It's been quite a while since this scoop was updated! The farm has been up to so many things. Most recently we got back from the AHR spring sale. We bought two horses, Straightshot of Excellence ("Scotty"), a two year old stallion (soon to be gelding) and a five year old mare, Marissa ODA ("Missy"). See some pictures below!

4/10/17: The farm returned late last night from Equine Affaire and a fabulous time was had by all! Every year bring something new and this year we got to be on TV! The local Columbus TV station interviewed the farm and the TV anchor, Cameron Fontana, even rode Heather's backstep! Other notable highlights included many members of the farm participating in some excellent educational clinics, Emily competing in the Versatile Horse and Rider Competition (bringing home an 8th out of the formidable 25 entries!), several performances by the Golden Pony Express, and our Golden Haflingers participating in three "Time to Ride" clinics. During the Time to Ride clinics our ponies and farm members instructed adults and children at four stations - a safety station, a grooming station, a tacking station, and last but not least, a riding station! Check out some video and pictures below!

1/23/16: Happy New Year!! With a foot of snow covering all the buildings, the heart of winter has definitely arrived. Emily, Gina, and Erin braved the snow to attend the HFH drill team practice last weekend. Below is a picture of them riding through the snow to get to the indoor! We're gearing up to perform both the OHA Driven Drill Team and also the HFH jumping drill team at the World Horse Expo in PA during the first week of March! If you're going to be there, give us a shout out!

11/16/15: Whew! What a crazy weekend! We just got back from the MA Equine affaire and what a journey it was! First, the motor home broke down on the way in the great state of PA, so Paul, Lou, and Carolyn had to rent a U-Haul to tow the bunkhouse and all the carriages the rest of the way. Emily, Gina, and Taylor arrived by plane the next morning and the whole group was finally in the state of Massachusetts! Both drill teams performed in Fantasia - The High Flying Haflingers performed during the first act, while the OHA driven drill team performed during the second act! What an amazing weekend full of incredible memories.

11/1/15: Another fall sale has come and gone and once again we went home with horse. Oops! How is it these things keep happening!? We welcome an 8 year old mare, Maretta PHHF, barn name "Mocha" to our herd. We have great things in store for Mocha! We also attended the 2015 HCC awards ceremony and brought home some prizes that we can't wait to use during next year's show season!

10/20/15: I'm embarrassed that it's EIGHT MONTHS since I updated this scoop. Yikes! Well, so many things have happened that it's hard to even remember! Let's see, in April we went to the Ohio Equine Affaire. While there, the Driven Drill team performed in the 2015 Ohio Fantasia, the Jumping drill team performed during a breed demo and fun was had by all! Then, I (Rachael Cooper) got married to David Schindler and became Rachael Schindler. Check out the pictures below! We had a wonderful show season, culminating in a fabulous awards ceremony that I'll write a separate post about. Most exciting, both the Ridden and Driven Drill teams will be performing at the Massachusetts Equine Affaire Fantasia in November!!!

2/19/15: WRF has some EXCITING NEWS!! The OHA Driven Drill team has been invited to perform in the Equine Affiare Fantasia! In addition, there will be a 12 horse Jumping Drill team also performing! We hope you all can make it down to see us!

2/16/15: Are you all as cold as we in Ohio are?! Since I updated last the North kids went to a couple Chagrin Valley Jumper Shows and the drivers of WRF participated in the January ADT. Check out video of Heather completing the hazards with her tandemNicole jumping Gabby at the Jumper Show, and Kindler jumping Kati at the Jumper show!

10/20/14: What a fantastic time we had yesterday at the Bath Haunted Halloween Hunter Pace! The weather was perfect - sunny and breezy. We want more fall days like this!

10/12/14: With the swirling red, gold, and orange leaves it's really starting to feel like fall! The AHR Fall Haflinger Sale was this past weekend and I have so much news to share! Friday night the HCC held its annual awards banquet. Look below for a full accounting of WRF's accomplishments. THEN, on Saturday the most perfect filly ever stepped foot into the sale arena and we just had to take her home. A big shout out to Glinda RVM - we're so excited to see what the future holds for you! Pictured below to the left is little Glinda with Abby and Gigi letting her know all about the friends she's going to find at her new home. Pictured below to the right is the WRF gang with their 2014 HCC loot.

9/28/14: WRF conquered cow sorting and team penning today (or perhaps, the cows conquered us!). While there wasn't much actual successful sorting or penning, lots of laughing ensued and fun was had by all! What a fantastic fall this is shaping up to be!

9/8/14: The last HCC show was a success! WRF took 13 horses to the 4-day AHR Nationals and had a wonderful time competing and hanging out with our haflinger friends. The whole WRF team was in attendance (including our junior team members), which made for a busy schedule! Enjoy some pictures from the weekend below! Also check out this silly video from Saturday night :-)

8/28/14: Summer is officially over (boo-hoo)! The North kids moved into the Great Geauga County Fair yesterday and they'll be there through the end of the week and into next week. We wish them luck for a successful fair! Since the last update we went to the Central Ohio Haflinger Show, went on a hunter pace, competed in a mini-trial, goofed around at home, went swimming in the Chagrin River, and everyone started back to school or college! Even though we're sad summer is over, we had such a fabulous time! Next weekend is the last Haflinger show of the year (Nationals) and we're hoping to finish strong.

7/28/14: Last weekend we went to the West Country Classic HDT put on by Stacey Guiere. We took seven horses and spent a wonderful day doing driven dressage, cones, and then a marathon. We had three first time horses that had never done an HDT before - Katie, Gabby, and Noble. Noble was part of a tandem though, so he took it to a whole new level! WRF put on a spectacular show, bringing home quite a few blues and lots of trophies. Check out some pictures below:

7/14/14: We've been loving this summer weather! Not too hot, not too cold, just right!! Since the last update, we went to the New York Gold Classic Haflinger Show and brought 12 horses with us (12!!). The show was fabulous and all the horses and girls performed superbly!

7/6/14: We've been so busy I've forgotten to update the website! We went to the Buckeye Haflinger Show last weekend and had a phenomenal time. The ponies were so well behaved and all members of the WRF team performed well! Check out a picture below! We've also swum in the Chagrin River, took six ponies to a fourth of July parade, went to several 4-H shows, qualified for state fair, attended and showed at Horse Progress Days and a zillion other things. Oh, and check out our haflingers for sale page - Stanhope WRF has just been added!

5/25/14: What a gorgeous Memorial Weekend! The weather has been sunny, warm and perfect! We came home from the AHR spring sale yesterday - with a couple new horses I might add (oops)! Our friend from Florida, Sharon Cribbs, brought home two geldings: Arbow BWS and Arnik WGF. I bought a mare, Cozy's Dutchess, for Rachael Kindler as a training project this summer. Look for her at the HCC shows! Not only did we bring home sale horses, but we also took home Nunavick GF, Andrew, Linda, and Mae's stallion for Emily to work with and show this summer. In addition to all the purchasing fun, we also performed the jumping drill team twice! Check out a video here of the jumping drill team performing on Saturday morning before the sale started! The OHA Frontier Riders Drill Team also performed and look fabulous. Check out a video here of their performance! Tomorrow we are participating in the Sharon Center Memorial Day Parade and then going to the Stone Gate Hunter Pace.

4/14/14: We are home from Equine Affaire and what a fabulous, busy, friend-filled, FUN-filled five days!! Our farm participated in 2 Dana Hokana clinics, 3 Marc Johnson clinics, 4 breed demos, and performed the jumping drill team 3 times! Check out a video here of the jumping drill team performing on Saturday! We took 9 horses from the farm (Ladd, Noble, Rex, Gabby, Charm, Charlie, Lena, August, and Charlotte) and the ponies LOVED all the attention they got. We are already looking forward to next year!!

3/1/14: Today was a day filled with fun and success! WRF took five horses to the March Schooling Show at Chagrin Valley. Nicole showed August in his first 2'3 course and took home two blues! Rachael Kindler and Charlotte took home Grand Champion in the 2' division, Abby and Charm took home Grand Champion in the 18" division and Anna and Charlotte took home Grand Champion in the W/T crossrail division! Kelly and Charlie and Nicole and Gabby also rode in the 2' division, doing fabulously (it was Gabby's first time moving up to 2')! Ellie and Charm rode in the W/T flat classes and Ellie won her first blue ribbon! Best of all, we had a blast and got to hang out with all our horsey friends!

2/16/14: What a great weekend! WRF took seven horses to the February GLADS ADT held at Windy Knoll in Sullivan, Ohio. We had two first time people (Rachael Kindler and Nicole Zelenak) and three first time horses (Charlotte, Gabby and Noble)! Everyone and their ponies did amazingly and fun was had by all! Heather and Harry took first place in single prelim pony, while Lou and Rex took second right behind them. Emily and Ladd took first place in single prelim horse, Rachael C. and Charm took first place in single training pony with Paul and Noble taking second and Rachael K. and Charlotte taking third. Nicole and Gabby took third in single training horse. Check out some pictures below!!

1/27/14: Happy New Year! WRF is excited for all the fun and laughter that will happen in 2014! We are getting ready for Equine Affaire in April, attending Hunter Jumper Schooling shows at Chagrin Valley Farm, and playing with our ponies in the snow!

11/20/13: Today was a day for playing and having fun on the trail course!

11/10/13: What a great day! We went to the Chagrin Valley Schooling Show today and it was quite a day of Firsts! Abby and Charm entered their first ever CANTER classes (!) and also jumped their first CANTER 18" course! HPR brought along two Walk Trotters for their FIRST EVER show! Anna and Ellie were troopers for the day and did fantastically. Kelly and Charlie had a great day competing in the 2' division and Nicole and Gabby were Reserve Grand Champs of the 18" Division!

11/7/13: Our ponies are living a diverse life! Gabby, Charm, and Charlotte (and Nicole, Kindler and I) went to Blue Lakes and Cow Sorted and Team Penned tonight! We were even fairly successful! Check out a video here!

10/28/13: As October draws to a close - fallen, crunchy leaves swirling underfoot, ponies growing in their heavy winter coats - we are thankful for what a great year we have had so far. We had another fun filled horsey weekend (despite the 8" of snow that HPR got Wednesday night, check out pictures below). On Saturday we went to a Halloween Trail Course Competition put on by Sarah Vas at the Winfield Farm and Forge. Kelly Cooper and Charlie won (with a blistering time of 2:36)! Here is Heather and Harry, Rachael and Charm, Abby and Charm, Emily and Ladd, and Nicole and Gabby. Then, on Sunday we went to the Bath Halloween Hunter Pace and experienced the spooky trail course (with giant spiders and ghouls scattered all over the place)!

10/13/13: What a great weekend! We had beautiful weather for the fall sale - sunny, warm, with bright blue skies! We did not come home with any horses (which thrilled Keyk to death), but we did have fun hanging out with our haflinger friends! Friday during the day Emily took Lexi into the AHR futurity. Lexi was so, so well behaved, acting like she'd been born to show. Then we went to the HCC awards ceremony (full results at the end of the post). We also went to a hunter pace last weekend (Stone Gate) and we went to the Chagrin Valley Schooling Show today! Busy, busy ponies! Check out Kelly and Charlie in the 2'3" Suitable Hunter Division and check out Nicole in the 18" W/T/C Division (of which she was the Reserve Grand Champion)!

10/2/13: Fall is here! The leaves are turning the most vibrant shades of red, yellow, and orange and the weather has been gorgeous - sunny and bright and warm during the day. It's perfect for hunter pacing, fox hunting, and cow sorting! There is so much news to report. First, the remaining two haflinger shows (Central Ohio and Nationals) were tons of fun and very successful. We took eleven haflingers to Central and ten haflingers to Nationals, all of whom performed fantastically. We also attended an open schooling day at Bath to show Charlotte what cross country was like and we took her swimming (with her horse of course!) in the Bridge of Dreams river. Check out a video of all the girls having fun on the cross country course and having fun swimming under the Bridge of Dreams! Then Charlotte had to return to France and we all cried to see her go. Thanks for such a great summer, Charlotte, we had a blast and we miss you like crazy! The farm also tried our hand at cow sorting and team penning this past Sunday. We had more fun than success, and our cheering section did more laughing than cheering, but we had blast, which is the point, right?!

8/4/13: Can you believe the summer is almost over?! It really flew by! WRF had a successful run at the Ohio CDE last weekend. Rachael took her mare Charm, Heather took her gelding Harry, Lou took his gelding Rex, and Paul took his gelding Arnie to compete. This was Lou's first time competing at Prelim level, and he surprised himself with how well he did! I took some video of Heather competing in the Hazards, Lou competing in the Hazards, and Paul competing in the Hazards. As soon as the CDE was over, we loaded up to go to the Medina County Fair (we and our horses had to be into the fair by midnight!). WRF took 8 ponies (Noble, Arnie, Nellie, Harry, Lucy, Lexi, Rex, and Ladd) to the fair. Heather showed the majority of the horses in the draft show on Tuesday and Thursday, while Emily used Arnie, Ladd and Lucy to show in 4H. Lots of fun was had by all! Now we have two days of downtime before we have to pack and leave for Central Ohio this upcoming weekend!

7/19/13: WRF has been busy busy busy!! We have been to a couple 4-H shows, we participated in a fourth of July parade and we've been to two haflinger shows - the Buckeye Haflinger Show and the New York Gold Classic! We also picked up two new horses - Akanak of M & N ("Teddy") and Weber STH. Weber and Word of Wisdom will be making their way to Jeff in Wisconsin next month, but in the meantime, WRF has quite a few haflingers filling the barn this summer!

6/13/13: HPR is really appreciating the indoor arena after this rainy windy week! The girls have been practicing their gymnastics and our youngest team member, Abby, wanted in on the fun!

5/28/13: So much news to report! First off, we went to the AHR spring sale and bought back two ponies! The first is a gelding (Word of Wisdom SAC) that we bought for a friend of ours (Congrats Jeff Keller!) and the second is a mare (Nellie LMD) to match with Paul's gelding Arnie. Then on Sunday Kelly C. and Nicole went to a 4H show  with their ponies (Charlie and Gabby) and had a fantastic day while Emily and Heather went to a local COSCA show with Harry. THEN, on Monday we took two teams and five riders into the memorial day parade before hurrying back to load up another five ponies into the trailer to head to Stone Gate for a hunter pace. What an amazing holiday weekend! Check out some pictures below:

5/19/13: Kelly Cooper and her gelding Charlie competed in the Limit Rider 2' division yesterday at Stoney Ridge and did fantastically! Check out a video here!

4/19/13: We're home and (mostly) unpacked from Equine Affaire. What a great time was had by all! Thanks to everyone who stopped by and visited with us! Emily and Ladd competed in the Versatile Horse and Rider Competition Thursday afternoon and made it into the finals! She won 8th in the Final competition, you can check out the video of her competing in the finals here. We performed in the Opening Ceremony of the Pfizer Fantasia - Emily (riding Ladd), Nicole (riding Gabby), and I (riding Charm) are the three riders in red, Lou is driving Rex in the single marathon vehicle and Paul is driving the three abreast with the quartet (driving Bill, Noble, Monty). The Ridden Drill team then performed two acts later to the cheers of the crowd! We had SO MUCH FUN!

4/7/13: We leave for Equine Affaire in THREE days! We are bringing everything AND the kitchen sink, so stop by our aisle! We are bringing 9 haflingers (Monty, Bill, Noble, Rex, Ladd, Charm, Gabby, Charlie, and August) who are so excited to meet and say hi to anybody who stops by. Check us out in the demos, in clinics, in youth presentations, or in the Pfizer Fantasia! See you there!

3/16/13: Another horsey day! WRF was in full force at the March ADT at Windy Knoll farm. Paul showed Arnie, Lou showed Rex, Emily showed Ladd and Heather showed Harry. Everyone did wonderfully. Lou got first in the horse single division out of nine entries and Paul came in second! Emily did great for her first time moving up to prelim - although she did eliminate herself by going through gate 1 of the cones backwards (oops!). Heather and Harry also did great, earning the best dressage score they've ever driven! Check out video of the ADT below:

DRESSAGE: Here is Emily and Ladd doing their prelim dressage test, this is Lou and Rex competing at dressage, here is Heather and Harry in dressage, and here is Paul and Arnie in dressage.

HAZARDS: Last, the Hazards! This is the most fun (at least for the navigators!). Here is Emily and Ladd competing in the hazards, here is Lou and Rex competing in the hazards (with Rach as the navigator!), here is Heather and Harry competing in the hazards, and last (but not least!) here is Paul and Arnie competing in the hazards. A special thanks to Sarah Vas for navigating for Emily, Heather and Paul!

2/24/13: What a fabulously fun filled horsey day! We went to the Blue Lake Tack Swap this morning and found some really good deals (perhaps more deals then we really needed to find...the tack room continues to fill up at a somewhat alarming rate :-) We raced home, loaded the ponies up and went over to Chagrin Valley. All girls and ponies did wonderfully. Here is Kelly and Charlie competing in the 18" division, this is Abby and Charm competing in the Walk/Trot crossrails division (THIS WAS ABBY'S FIRST JUMPING SHOW!!), and here is Nicole and Gabby also competing in the Walk/Trot crossrails division (of which she was the Grand Champion of the division!) What a great day!

2/20/13: Nicole and Kelley had some fun today!

2/16/13: Emily and Heather had fun playing with all the ponies today. Check out a video of Emily riding Lucy (while standing up!)

2/10/13: A couple weeks ago Kelly and Nicole had some fun in the new arena! Dad wanted in on the fun, so he showed some "true horsepower." Check out the link above to see some horsing around!

2/8/13: Today was Abby's Birthday and she had a pony party at the barn! Charm and Gabby were troopers, giving pony rides to all the party goers. In other news HPR's indoor arena is coming along fantastically. I'll try to get some pictures and update the arena page tomorrow. Much of the stone work on the outside is coming along, the storage rooms are nearly complete, and the break room is insulated with part of the inside of the roof installed!

1/27/13: HPR took three horses to the Chagrin Valley Hunter/Jumper Schooling Show today! Kelly and Charlie competed in the 18" division, Nicole and Gabby competed in the crossrail division (first jumping show ever for Gabby!) and Abby and Charm competed in the W/T Flat division. All three girls and their ponies did wonderful (we have some AWESOME haffies!) and we had a fun filled day!

1/3/13: Happy New Year!! 2013 is going to be another fabulous year, I know it. Today the WRF girls had some fun! Emily pulled a sled behind Noble and we took turns riding on the sled. Emily had fun trying to lose her passengers around corners or over bumps, the devilish girl. Check out a video here!

10/28/12: We just got home from the fall sale and we bought a horse! Gabby RVM is Nicole's new project horse for the upcoming year. In addition, we had a fabulous show year, winning many HCC awards, which were given out at the Awards presentation on Friday. Further updates on that will be posted soon. In other news, it's been another rainy fall, but that hasn't stopped the Walnut Ridge Girls! Pictured below is Nicole on her new horse Gabby and Emily and Nicole riding Sammie and Arnie in the rain.

4/23/12: WRF took NINE haflingers down to Equine Affaire to show the world just how wonderful and amazing this breed truly is. We also had four horses in this year's Pfizer Fantasia as part of the OHA driven drill team! Check us out on youtube! We have also added a new horse to the herd. "Alianna" will be joining our show circuit this year and we are very excited to see what she can accomplish!

Update 10/23/11:

With the last of the year's hunter paces under our belt, we were sad to think that the end of the hunter pace season had arrived. Instead of mourning, we took initiative and decided to build our own hunter pace course at the farm. We are the proud builder/owners of a 25 fence course that loops the back fields of the farm. Here are some pictures:
