We have a great start on our data collection and we have finished two sestiere of the historic center of Venice in a week and half. We figured out two of the best solutions to keep track of all the stores. The first and original plan is to follow the address numbers and go through them one by one. But sometimes the address numbers jump a lot, probably two blocks away for the next number which is not the worst case yet. Therefore our plan B is to use a map and mark out the streets that have been gone through; by doing that, each person works on the stores on one side of the street and marks out both sides of the streets, and we will go through all the streets in that sestiere. We also figured out two ways of taking decent pictures for stores. The first one is that when one person is working on the data collection and the other one takes pictures for a store. But when it gets darker in the late afternoon, picture quality will be affected, so we decided to only do data collection for that case and came back to those stores the next day to take pictures.
Even though there was a great flooding in Venice last weekend, it was said as the greatest one for the past 160 years. We are glad that our team live on the fourth floor and was not affected at all. We are getting more and more used to life in Venice even if it floods since we all got rain boots and know the closest way to the nearest grocery shopping place.
We have a great thanksgiving dinner this week with everyone’s well-cooked food. Thanks for Manny and hydro team’s effort; we are the first WPI students to have turkey in Venice during thanksgiving dinner. The thanksgiving is coming and everyone is travelling away during the break. Hope everyone has a good time on thanksgiving and also keep working on project. Ciao!
