Our team has been working on our project for the past month and preparing for the project's execution in Venice. The execution part of the project has always seemed so far away and, at times, like a distance reality. This week. however, we focused more on the technical part of the project and discussed the specific tasks we will be performing when we arrive in Venice. We also had the second part of our site specific orientation and, after hearing all the information the other groups presented, started thinking about what our routines will be in less than a month from now. There were so many things to consider and plan in such a short time that it never really hit us; we are actually going to Venice. That notion has been in the back of our minds this entire time, but now it feels almost tangible. We also met with Chris Pinola, who did his project in Venice last year and is helping us understand the database we will be using for our project. After he explained what his project accomplished, he told us about his IQP experience. He told us what
living in Venice was like for him and gave us advice on what to bring and what to do when we get there. We talked about little things we will encounter when we’re there, like getting lost innumerable times, not being able to get from one place to another in a straight path, and having no drying machines there (all laundry is hung up, inside and outside of the houses).
The city is not just going to be the famous city of love we have been researching anymore; soon, we are going to know it really well. It will be our home for seven weeks. This prospect got us excited and renewed our motivations; we are soon going to live the Venetian life.
