Southland Marathon

8 :15 Sunday morning was blustery to say the least, the intrepid marathoners set off from Riverton for the 42.195 km run to Invercargill.

As usual the field spread out with two distinct races taking place,. In front three Vet men followed by three young women. After six k I never saw their race unfold as they were too far ahead of the rest of the runners.

Val settled into her normal marathon pace sometimes being blown along by the wind and sometimes getting struck by a savage cross wind that carried skiffs of rain as the road wound its way to Invercargill.

The jacketed Ingrid Frost slowly reeled in val and passed her around the  15 km mark, both women running well within themselves and doing "their own thing."

The race continued much the same until the end with Val a minute and two seconds behind Ingrid Finishing 5th Lady over  all and second Masters Lady.
