For 32 Km val ran into a blustery head wind, not ideal conditions as she was backing up from a 12 hour race two weeks before. She settled in to her pace and was immediately followed by two men and a lady and they followed her for 25 km - none of them taking the lead and letting Val do all the work. At 25 Km the lady fell off the pace but then men stayed behind Val with one making a move at 34 km. Val continued on at her selected pace and finished looking fresh and fit in 4:10:58 not a record but good enough to take 2nd place in the over 40 women's race.
