Moro Marathon

Post date: Sep 12, 2010 9:22:35 PM

Just back from Dunedin where Val took part in the Moro Marathon. Beautiful day lot of entrants - over 200 in Marthon!

Val was supposed to run at a set pace and complete in 3:30 but the weather got to her and going through Half way in 1:40: 45 thought sh may be a little quick!

The first half is along the beautiful Dunedin peninsular where the harbour is on the right and trafic on the left.

Once entering Dunedin the trip through the warehouses is easy enough but it is around this time that Va;l catches up with the masses of walkers and slow runners.

The organisers have done the best they can by now taking the competitors down along a walkway aside the railway at least avoiding the traffic for the first half of the journey out to Port Chalmers. But as the events popularity grows then space becomes less and Val has to battle her way passed walkers and runners, some who seem oblivious to the request by the organisers to "Give runners Room."

This second half took only 3 minutes longer than the first half so almost negative splits for the marathon bodes well for the race in Auckland.

Overall Val finishedin 3:24:22  was placed in the womens section:- 5th overall , 4 Masters 1 over 50 and took out the trophy for the first (male or female) Otago Masters Athlete in the Marathon.

Another enjoyable day in the sun.
