On a blustery day a record was always going to be a hard task. At the marathon distance val was still on target for a World age group best but the gusty winds were taking their toll - both on her and the tents around the course. At 50 K a New New Zealand record was in the bag and the World age group still possible at 6 Hours another New Zealand record but time was getting tight. At 8 Hours the record was touch and go. A hard 8 to 11 hours slowed val down but she was still running - walked one lap to get plenty of food on board for a last push. At 11 hours val sped up the pace and kept lapping faster but it was too late she just missed the World age group record of 100.22Km but managed a New Zealand record of 98.176 Km. To relax and recover val is doing the  Southland Marathon on 13th October.
