The servers have now been built with Microsoft Virtual PC and the DreamSpark licenses to create the environment, however I have hit performance issues due to the specification of my Dell server.
The Dell Server only has 2Gb of PC2-4200 Memory which is not enough to run two operating systems and the SQL server. As a result the server is very unstable and takes a long time to boot.
To resolve this I will need to buy additional memory and consider if using the Microsoft OS and SQL server is the best software for my Dell server.
I need to update my Virgin Media router as it does not support DDNS (Dynamic Domain Name Service) to enable me to create a DMZ to allow the IIS part of the server to be internet facing. This will require a new router. A colleague at work has recently bought a Asus RT-N66U router that has this functionality.
