All right boys and girls, we are all going to knit in this class.. and you will LOVE it. Trust me, it's addictive. Our first project is a skater beanie. Once you've made your hat and get the hang of it, then we will choose a place in the court yard to yarn bomb!
First step is to design your hat in your blackbook. Think about the colour theory that we used in designing our skateboards. Of course, you are going to choose colours that suit you and we all choose colours for a reason!
You can add stripes and different patterns as well. You can also decide how long you want your hat... a long one or a short one. Maybe a pom pom? Can't wait to see your designs!
Craftivism and Yarnbombing
We already discussed the similarities between Graffiti and Yarn Bombing.
Similarities:
Bright Colours
Use of Patterns
Temporary
Found in Urban Places
Made to Bring Colour to our Dull Urbanized Places
Yarn Bombers also work in CREWS... when they do projects, they work as a team much like graffitit artists.
My favourite yarn bomber is Olek. She is most famous for yarn bombing a bull in New York City on Wall Street. I was hoping to catch her show in Montreal last weekend, but the gallery was closed by the time I got there. She had actually yarn bombed her entire apartment (image on the left). This takes tea cozies to an extreme!
