Accept Your Limitations
Embrace Your Limitations
What is the difference between the two?
I asked you to go home and make a sheet about yourselves. One of the questions was "what do you dislike about art". We also examined some 'bad' art yesterday by cutting up text books. We are starting to question the entire idea of what art is, what is the criteria of what makes art good verses bad, and looking at non traditional art materials and art making methods to start this course. All of which will help each of us discover our own creative process and way we make art.
Four questions for today:
What makes art 'good'?
How do we know when something is art?
What do you dislike about art?
What do you like about art?

We finally got a hold of Phil. I was borderline stalking him. About 2 pm on Friday, I decided to give it one last shot... and we got through! Fortunately we had the live stream up in front of Elizabeth's Parenting class while we spoke to him and he gave the whole class a wave. All weekend I waited for his text about when he was going to include Elizabeth's story in his art and finally he did on Monday night. I filmed some parts of him making the art but only got the part of him after he sent me a text :(
The good news is that Mr. Yaneff and myself have sponsored his project, and Elizabeth will be receiving a poster of the final project in the mail sometime this summer AND her name will be in the credits of the documentary that he is filming as he is completing this work. How exciting!
Luckily, Izabelle was in the same Parenting class and was able to film the conversation so I will be sure to let you see that when I get it. And I REALLY hope that Claire posts the phone call I made to Phil (see, we are on a first name basis now!).
Anyhow, if you want to watch his project on his live stream the link is www.philinthecircle.com . If you are interested in starting your own project, www.kickerstarter.com is an excellent way to go!
I love this video. It's really an advertisement about wind energy, but I think that the underlying message really speaks to finding our own talents in this class. After watching this video, reflect in your sketchbook about it could relate to you.
