A HUGE, special thank you to ANDRES MUSTA for coming to our class to inspire us with his stickers and stencils. Andres has been a long time guerilla artist and teacher from Port Perry, responsible for putting together the first ADHESIVE ARTS EXHIBITION at the Bait Shop in Torontoduring Nuit Blanche a couple of years ago. This is an awesome site exhibiting a huge database of local stickers artists! See if you can recognize some of the names that Andres was mentioning.
Andres uses his zombie images as his metaphor for shouting out at the world about everything that makes him angry. He examines Human Rights issues through his zombie imagery.
Most importantly, Andres taught us how powerful stickers can be in spreading your message. He introduced us to a wide variety of local and international sticker artists. Collaboration and distribution are key elements to the entire sticker culture. Andres' stickers can be found in over 43 countries through sticker trading and swapping. The internet, specifically flicker, allows him to network with sticker artists all over the world!
I think that we need to start out own flickr account and begin network ourselves!
Andres introduced us to various techniques in creating stickers. We used oil based lino block printing ink to make our prints more permanent. Everyone did amazing work and once our stickers are dry we will for sure send out a pack to Andres.
Below are some more examples of work from our day!
