One of the main purposes of this course is to advocate for graffiti and street art as forms of art and not vandalism, and to promote only LEGAL forms of graffiti and street art in this class. If any of our students participate in any forms of illegal activity associated with graffiti or street art as vandalism, you will put the ability to run this course in jepoardy. Please be responsible and ethical in all of your choices.
Sometimes I am going to ask you to break the rules and THINK for yourself. We do, however, need to be very clear on how our classroom is going to work so we can get started on some great projects. Today, the class came up with the following:
The 4G Rule is in effect at all times. No part of your artwork will make any references to these.
Teacher notes: explain to the kids that it's a different sort of course where we are suppose to break rules, but at the end of the day we are still in school and need to have some guidelines. I ask for them to come up with about four rules that would work in our classroom. If there is someone in the class that has taken it before I ask them to keep that one special rule to themselves. They will know it's the 4G rule. I ask the rules to be more positive. Instead of "Don't make a mess", for example, "Keep the Studio Clean". Give them each the handout, ask them to talk at their table and come up with some rules as table groups on the BACK of the handout out. After a bit, take up the answers on the board and come up with the best rules together. Then add the 4G rule. They can them make a mind map on the handout of the class rules. Hand out goes in their cubby for them to glue in their blackbook later.
