IT 2005, MBA at IIM Calcutta.
Hi, I am Manjula Singh. I graduated from UMIT in 2005. Thereafter, I had a short stint as visiting faculty for Data Structures Lab at UMIT for a semester. I worked with TCS for about 2 years. I am currently pursuing MBA at IIM Calcutta.
ITW, as it was called then, was a really small building with just around 4 classrooms. But it was buzzing with activity and the seniors were really supportive and receptive. My first impression of ITW was that of a small, closely knit student community.
As class representative I was mainly maintaining attendance records, re-scheduling lectures and interfacing between the professors and the students. The post did teach me how to handle a position of responsibility and the nuances of being a representative of a group of individuals.
The biggest and most conspicuous change in the Institute is obviously the new building that has come up. Apart from that, I feel the quality and relevance of elective courses improved considerably. We had some great elective courses like Artificial intelligence and Open source programming etc.
The teachers were great in terms of the support and guidance they provided. They were all ears to any problems that we might have had. They wanted the girls to have a bright future and always stressed on the importance of higher education.
I miss almost everything about college life. Those four years were the most cherished. But I guess I miss being with my friends the most; because ITW gave me some of my best friends for life.
I would like to help the institute in terms of placements, live projects, faculty from the industry, industrial visits etc. through the business network that I will be part of after my MBA.
