ENC 2004, Business Management at IIT Kharagpur
Currently working as Sr. Consultant at Synovate, San Fransico, California.
Earlier worked as a Project Engineer with Wipro Technologies for about 2 years before beginning an MBA (General Management) at the Vinod Gupta School of Management, IIT Kharagpur.
While in UMIT, I Held the posts of Secretary of IEEE-ITW Student’s Chapter 2002-03, Sponsorship Head for Arcane Illusions ’03, Assistant Membership Head for IEEE-ITW Student’s Chapter in 2001-02 and Assistant Sponsorship Head for Arcane Illusions ‘02
My decision to join UMIT was based on the fact that the UMIT syllabus was designed on the lines of the IIT course rather than the standard Mumbai university format.
This had its advantages, since the teaching methods in UMIT are much more evolved than those followed by the Mumbai University colleges. Also since most of the activities in UMIT are student led, the various events that are held in college give immense opportunities to develop leadership abilities that are crucial during ones career.
Apart from this the last semester is scheduled such that 5 working days can be devoted towards developing the major project. Thus the depth of the project undertaken by the students is comparable with high ranking engineering institutes of India and the inclusion of Managerial studies in the final semester makes students ready for a career.
Though there are many wonderful things about the institute I have to say that industry awareness of the institute in low and SNDT University continues to be associated with stereotype courses.
Another change I would like to see is that a wider variety of electives should be offered in the last two semesters of graduation. Also The Electronics and Communications course did not incorporate any fundamentals of Java or Matlab - skill sets which are essential to the industry. Inclusion of these topics in the course material should be considered.
