Magic Fluke Co. "Surf Scene" Fluke

The Magic Fluke Co. are a US manufacturer who make a couple of different models of Ukulele, (actually in America! They don't just import them from China with their name stuck on). There is The Flea and this one, The Fluke. The concert Fluke has a 15.5" scale length, 15 frets and overall length of 23 inches. A solid maple or walnut neck, and laminate birch top, are combined with an injection molded thermoplastic body and polycarbonate or hardwood fretboard. The Tenor Fluke has the same body size with a 17" scale and overall length of 24.5".To expand the basic range they do both types of Ukulele with a number of different coloured Soundboards and for a bit more money, a number of different patterns. My Flea has a solid colour Soundboard so I wanted a <u>nice</u>, (and some of the patterns in my opinion aren't), patterned Fluke.

My Fluke is a Tenor scale, with a maple neck, polycarbonate fretboard with 17 frets, and has an older discontinued pattern called "Surf Scene". But it is one that I think look's very nice and the fact that it is no longer available new adds to the attraction for me. I suppose technically its a Superconcert but it has quite a long body so doesn't have the disproportionate look that long neck Ukuleles usually have so unless I get a Concert size one too and that changes my perspective, I will think of it as a Tenor Fluke.

Now I have it I think this is really nice to play, better than my Flea, (it doesn't have the fret buzz/rattle if you strum it hard and one issue with the Fluke and Flea is you can't adjust the saddle height.), and I can see what the fuss with MFC is about.

One other issue with it is, the more I play it the more my arm rubs the surfer girl from the picture. This is why she is starting to fade and get a little indistinct, and why I don't play this a lot, (Lifeguard that I am, I want to save her), so I'll have to get another Tenor Fluke as well as a Concert one!
