It was a bit of a shock to encounter the British weather after 3 weeks in Florida (particularly on Sunday)
Despite the weather, Team Racing took place. I was at the Brummie Bender, which was won by the West Kirby Team.
The Oxford Magnum managed to get a result, although Bruce Hebbert says that at 2pm on Sunday the surface of the lake was being ripped off by the wind. Bruce had also organised an ISAF Team Racing Umpire Seminar, with eight students attending, over five days. He says that the Umpiring improved remarkably over this time and the Umpiring at the Magnum was the best he has ever seen (high praise indeed).
As always, when Umpires get together, a number of rule details come under the microscope. I am hoping that when Bruce has time he will give us a report. Meanwhile, an example to ponder - apparently few people gave consideration to the fact that Rule 18.3 applies at the finish. I hope that has you reaching for your rule book.
