Off the water at 1745 with 216 races sailed so far. Racing finally began around 1pm. Edinburgh lead the Super Gold League with 5 wins out of 6 races sailed. In the Gold League Exeter 1, Portsmouth and Southampton 2 are all on 5 wins out of 7 races sailed, whilst in the Silver League London 1 have 4 wins from 4 races sailed. In the Ladies competition Southampton Ladies 2 have 13 wins out of 14 races sailed. Durham Ladies are lying second with 11 wins.
We need another 54 races to finish the second round, if this is not possible the fall back is to results at race 190. The organisers are hoping that it will be possible to run quarter finals, semi's and a final and given the way the wind filled in during the afternoon today this seems a realistic aspiration, despite a forecast which promises even less wind tomorrow.
Midday Thursday, we have been on the water, but there was no racing and it does not look good. The chief umpire is about to run a rules seminar.
A full day of racing took place yesterday (Wed) at Chew Valley Lake SC as the 2010 BUSA Finals got under way.
Three leagues of eight for the 24 Mixed competition and a full round robin for the 9 Ladies teams were completed in shifting conditions, whick kept the course manager (Alan Guy) very busy.
Edinburgh won their league without dropping the race so are essentially leading at this stage. In league B there is a three way tie with London 2, Bristol 1 and Southampton 1 in a three way tie on 5 wins each, the tie break gives Southampton 1 first place so they will go through to the Super Gold League. In League C it was a two way tie between Exeter 1 and Warwick 1 both on six wins - the tie break goes to Warwick 1. In the Ladies Durham and Southampton Ladies 2 have seven wins each out of eight and Southampton Ladies 2 hold the tie-break.
If we sail today (and at the moment the lake is a mirror) the plan is a Super Gold round robin for the league winners, agold league of 12 comprising the teams who came 2nd-12th and a silver league for the others. The Ladies will do another complete round robin.
