West Kirby Hawks are the winners of the 2009 RYA Team Racing Championships held at Bough Beech SC an March 14/15. The Hawks team of Andy Cornah, Hamish Walker, Dom Johnson, Deb Steele, Ben Field and Tom Foster beat twenty three other teams to take the Duke of Edinburgh Trophy.
Saturday provided superb weather for the first stage of the competition comprising three leagues of eight teams. Bristol, The Lions and Royal Thames came top of each of these leagues, going forward in the Super Gold League for the second round, most of which was concluded by the end of Saturday with over 100 races sailed.
Sunday saw the completion of the second round with Oxford beating Cambridge in the Gold League, Rutland beating Southampton 1 in the Silver League and Bath University beating Warwick in the Bronze League.
In the failing wind the race officer began the knock-out section with quarter finals but when the wind failed to co-operate was forced to abandon this stage of the competition. This meant that the winners were the top team in the Super Gold League, the West Kirby Hawks. Runners up were The Lions comprising Matt Findlay, Toby Lewis, Tom Hebbert, Jo Bailey, Paul Campbell-James and Helen Mayhew.
A full set of results and the RYA Press release is now posted on the Championship Page.
