There’s a feeling trapped inside my heart –
A feeling we’ve all had;
But none can describe.
It’s a burning without fire,
A pain with lack of knife,
A hole filled with blood and skin,
A coldness in the summer sun;
A deep-pitted –
Illogical –
Longing.
We need each other –
Though we hate to admit it.
We love each other –
And occasionally say it.
We love with caution,
Hoping that the fire will burn out;
And that the hole will be filled.
For a while we feel great –
Exuberant –
Until we cut ourselves from each other.
We leave our veins bare;
To bleed the heat and emotion;
We want to hold onto a little longer.
We feel the skin collapse;
And blood fall through;
Until the hole is back again;
And chokes us of compassion.
That feeling grows again;
Deeply seeded in our hearts;
We close each other out;
And refuse to need company;
When we know that only the company;
Will seal the hole;
And drive the cold away.
We throw ourselves into meaningless flings;
And wonder why we feel nothing;
When we give such little effort.
We need each other;
Each others’ emotion;
To kill the seed and spark joy –
Only then may hearts grow full of love and warmth.
We shouldn’t be afraid to love;
Or throw meaning away;
Instead;
Let’s embrace each other.
