One contributes to greater mental and physical wellness, by diligently checking one's thoughts and releasing those that cause negative stress.
Psychosomatic diseases, or functional illnesses, are the consequence of improper thinking.
They include cancer, gastro - intestinal, cardiovascular and mental diseases.
As in one's automatic response to pain, the body sometimes reacts reflexively to ideas , without one having consciously decided to do so.
Body language is another outer manifestation of one's inner thoughts
This is also known as the Law of Attraction.
Like attracts Like.
When one obsesses over an idea , one creates opportunities for that idea to manifest in one' reality.
Believing that something will happen one subconsciously begins to take micro steps to make it happen.
There is an old adage - " You attract the things you fear the most "
One must also watch one's beliefs and self - talk.
People with victim mentality often find ways to become victims, but those with a good, healthy, positive attitude and outlook tend to be victorious.
Two variants of this are:
" Imagination often overrules reason "
" Imagination is more powerful than willpower "
Consider, that the stranger something is the more likely one will remember it.
Think of a metre wide line about twenty metres long, painted on the ground .
Walking along this line would be simple for most people.
Now, consider walking along a parapet that wide and long, 50 metres above the ground.
Most people would be terrified and refuse.
Why ?
Because they can imagine what would happen if they fell, or if a sudden gust of wind blew them off, or if the parapet crumbled away as they tried.
They imagine just about anything.
Imagination locks onto emotions and the body follows.
There is a paralysing fear to walking on the parapet 50 metres off the ground, and no amount of logical persuasion is enough to conquer that fear.
Not unless one finds ways to reach the feeling ( subconscious ) and change it's beliefs at that level of consciousness.
Logic and reason cannot solve emotional problems.
One should do whatever one can to avoid pessimism, doubt, gloom and mistrust, as these negatively charged emotions and imaginings will soon cloud one's mind and hold one captive.
This is also known as Cognitive Dissonance.
This is the mental stress ( discomfort ) experienced. by a person who simultaneously holds two or contradictory ideas, beliefs or values when performing an action that contradicts these ideas, beliefs or values.
Think of a man who engages in shady, illegal dealings during the day, and then comes home to his young son and encourages the boy to refrain from dishonest practices.
Feelings of remorse arise when a human commits an act that goes against his or her moral values.
Split minds lead to mental stress that may lead to depression.
Protracted emotional energy causes physical bodily changes, either for the good or worse, depending on whether that energy is supportive or detrimental.
Epigenetics ( ref: Dr. Bruce Lipton ) is the study of heritable traits from one cell or organism to another, that cannot be explained by changes in it's DNA sequencing.
A habitually positive mind has a beneficial effect, while a constantly negative mind has an adverse effect on one's gene expression.
Science has proven that one's mind affects the functioning of one's body - either for the good or bad.
Epigenetics has some way to go to prove that positive visualisation can cure cancer ; but there is a lot of anecdotal evidence to support that it does.
What is inescapable is that findings that prove that the mind, brain and body interlink, and so when the mind is out of kilter , the body gets out of balance.
Sir Isaac Newton discovered that objects travel in straight lines forever until
they meet a force that alters their trajectory.
Thoughts and beliefs tend to do the same thing.
It may take a while for one to integrate and entrench a thought.
Unless one rethought the beliefs that hold a habit in place, the habit would persist forever.
One should challenge one's thoughts and beliefs often to open one's one mind to fresh ideas and freethinking in order to poke holes in rigid belief systems.
In this way challenge the way the world taught us to think so that one can redesign one's life. for the better.
A mental trend is easier to follow the longer it lasts unbroken.
Once a habit forms it becomes easier to follow and more difficult to break.
Each time one gets a person to follow one's requests ( suggestions ), the more
likely they are to accept the next request ( suggestion ) one makes of ( to ) them.
Good salespeople know this information ; after getting one to agree to a framework of " yesses " , they then ask one to " sign on the dotted line ".
In hypnotherapy, the therapist will work with suggestions relevant to the issue(s) discussed with the client, and as progress is made, further suggestions will be more easily reinforced.
This is also known as the Law of Reversed Effect.
This explains why willpower does not really work.
Letting go of conscious effort allows the subconscious mind to act automatically.
Consider insomnia ; the harder one tries to go to sleep the wider awake one becomes.
This precept means that one must work to develop a positive mental expectancy that one can and will solve one's problem.
And simply allow.
