In the void, a single spark grows from the nothing. It swells into an egg, and sits. The egg shatters in an instant, the pieces of the ‘shell’ absorbing into the creature within, who is sound asleep. There it remains. Around it, there is nothing.
When the creature first awakes, it is an endless void. There is only it, white and brilliant against the void which seems far darker in comparison. It stands shakily on its four legs, wobbling upright. It is still, blinking and looking around curiously at the nothing. So much nothing, all of it empty. There is only it. It takes a step, and it’s hoof makes a sound.
It flinches at the sudden noise, ears pressing back, eyes wide in astonishment. After a few moments, it takes another anxious step. The sound comes again, but is no longer startling. Empowered by this, it takes a step forward, and then another.
It walks.
Its hooves make a steady rhythmic ‘clip-clop’ as it walks, and the sound breathes life into its movements. It listens to the sound, and the softer sounds of its legs rubbing it’s sides.
As it walks, its steps become more solid and confident. it has no real reason to walk, but it has no reason not to. Sometimes it pauses a moment to look around again, and nothing is there. Nothing has always been, and nothing will always be.
Nothing will happen in this void unless it causes it.
In the middle of a step a light shoots off its body, and it stops for the first time since it truly started walking. The light is beautiful, but it fades into the void as soon as it can focus on the thing and it becomes quiet once again.
It lays down, the solid surface underneath it scratching against its underbelly and coat. Both new feelings but not as important as the light. it was sad that the light was now gone, and wants to bring it back. How did it happen? It cannot remember it wishes it paid more attention to it, as the details to it were already fading, much like the light itself had.
It needs to make that happen again, and when it focuses, a second light shoots off it, into the void and vanishes much like the first one had. But with this, it comes to the startling realization: when it wills the light, it comes to it. It blinks at this, and closes its eyes.
It remains that way for some time, still and motionless. The blackness of its closed eyelids bleed dark red and the color is everywhere, stinging. It opens them and gasps, started by the very halo of light surrounding it. It is painfully bright, and it closes its eyes quickly, before squinting out at it again. it makes the gloom seem... less. Farther. The light commands attention, its brilliance drawing its very focus to it.
It wills it to die down, and the light fades from it. It takes a deep breath, and then exhales, calming itself down.
It stands again, still a bit shaky on its four legs, and it spins to look at the void around it.
There is nothing.
Nothing ever moves, nothing ever changes. nothing ever is. It is a dark and dead place. it is incomplete. It wants to breathe life into it. to create something.
It lays back down and closes its eyes once more.
Its breathing rhythmic, as It reaches with its mind, and focuses on that which it feels is missing. The notions come to it, and it feels the very things it seeks to form, crafting its creation, it’s love, and it grows under it’s care. soon it can feel it gain a physical form. compacted, in front of it.
It opens its eyes blinking at the two white things in front of it. It leans forward.
They are alive, and yet not.
Not yet.
It gives them a final nudge; a final piece in place. The gift of life. It wills them to awaken and join it.
The eggs move once, twice. They crack. The sound is startling, and it flinches from it, it’s ears pressed back. Somehow, the noise was not unexpected.
At once both eggs shatter. The lights from the shells collect around the forms of the two creatures within and are a part of it.
They look at each other first, poking at one another before turning to blink up at it and it smiles at them. One is blue and silver with dark and red eyes and spines. The other is pink and pale, it’s eyes the same, it’s wings fanning around it.
All at once the perceptions of time and space began. It understands what was missing. The Space expanded out as the pink creature breathed, the Time passed on as the blue creature’s heart moved. These were its children, and they already taught it many things just by existing!
It gathers them to it. and they examine it, feeling though it’s thick fur, and grey underbelly. It had not looked at itself before this moment and now took the time to do so. It has four legs, each with a gold colored hoof. It’s tail is long and wavy, and it’s middle had a ring around it, spaced just enough that it had not hit the thing while walking. When both of its children had climbed up onto it’s back, it stood, more confident now, and walked on. They make squeaks and small cries, taking in the motion of movement around them.
They do not go far before the three stop. There was a problem. It senses it; a dark energy caused by the creation of its children. Something it does not understand. It focuses again, drawing the power out, and once again it creates. A third egg comes to be, like the first two. They lay in front of it. They peered over it, curious at the new thing their parent had created.
Before it can do more, the egg shatters at once, the creature inside tumbling out, as the light of the shell collected around it as it had with the other two that came before it. It is a grey and gold creature, almost serpentine, with long thin limbs of black tipped in red. The new creature’s form contorts in another moment as the dark energy, the distortion, it sensed collects around and into it, shifting it’s form to one with six legs, dark wings of odd structure, the three points coagulating together in a single mass. After this it approaches and lays down, drawing this new creature over. This was also it’s child. The others clamber down, inspecting the new thing, as it was new to them. The creature shies away at first, but soon grows accustomed to them and the three soon clamber onto it’s back again. It stands and makes its way off once more.
They travel for some time, until it reaches what it knew to be the edge. With the perceptions of time and space and the distortion matter it understands that there is an edge to the void in places, and there wasn’t in others. the three children are curled up on once another, sleeping soundly on its back, as it inspects the edge. Startlingly, it finds that it can look out.
What it finds is another universe.
There is another it. This ‘other it’ had created the same creatures it had. It has created many, many things. It calls itself Arceus.
…Arceus.
It decids that it will by that name, too.
Arceus watchs the other one’s world for some time, then looks further and sees more universes, many of them, all creating things. It is a cycle that they are all part of. Arceus found this so interesting!
It notices a pattern among the creations. They fight, they bicker, the third grows bitter and attacks, it is banished, it is miserable. There was so much unhappiness!
Arceus can't bear to think of that happening to its children. It decides it cannot not follow these paths that the other Arceus’ were prone to, and, as it watchs more, it learns.
Arceus watches for a long time. Long enough that it’s children have awakened and start attempting to climb it’s ring, only to fall right off. Their cries startle it out of its thoughts, and it turns its attention to them, They are, as it knows now, Palkia, Dialga and Giratina. It draws the three of them over and comforts them. They settle.
It knows the task at hand now. But, in this void, nothing will truly happen if it does not will it.
There is no rush to create. There is a desire, yes, but it does not feel ready to act on it so hastily after what it has seen. It will stay. It will raise its children. It will avoid these well worn paths of the Arceus of old.
It will carve a new path its own way.
It’s first task is to draw the light that clings to the children from their birth. It is the left over energy, and without any physical form, it is drawn to them. Arceus takes this energy off them, each in turn, and crafts three orbs. One cut and clear, precise, Dialga’s energy in its purest form. The Adament orb. The second round and almost opaque, but with color swirling within. The Lustrous orb. The third somewhat oblong, gold, and a little translucent at the edges. The Griseous orb. It takes these three orbs into itself for now. It will call on them when they need them.
After this, Arcues spends time with his children, helping them grow. When Dialga and Palkia start showing some signs of hostility towards each other, Arceus intervenes and tells them that they will use their powers to explore. They are both wary of each other and straying too far from its side at first, but at its insistence, they set off, traveling through time and space. Their bonds are strengthened with each adventure and the quiet time without them allows Arceus to focus on its third child. In what it had see, Giratina is often neglected in some manner, causing it to become violent later in life. Arceus spends time with the small child and teaches it about the energy of life and creation, and the things it has learned from watching. The little creature is eager and has interesting concepts and ideas that Arceus never thought of. Together, they plan for a world.
There is a horrific bang, a crack that runs though space and time, almost overwhelming Arceus. It shields Giratina from the brunt of it by sheer instinct, but the small creature still suffers horribly under the effects of the distortion from such a massive disturbance. It calls on its power to summon it’s other children from wherever they had gone off to.
They are barely alive, blasted by something, their vital functions damaged. Thinking fast, it pulls the adamant and lustrous orbs and uses their power to complete the two again. It replaces the heart and the lungs respectively. This makes them more resilient, but their souls are forever bound to the orbs themselves. It used the third orb to lessen the blow for Giratina, who suffers under the distortion still, before hiding the orb again.
It gives the two a stern talking to for causing whatever they caused. It tells them they are not to leave its side again until they are more accustomed to their powers within a life filled setting. It smiles at their confusion.
Arceus feels ready.
It is time to begin.
Arceus works long with Giratina, showing it how it created the three of its children. It guides it with making a single egg. This one is grey, rather than the white that the first three eggs have been. While it is curious, it congratulates it’s child. They did it together.
Palkia and Dialga look at this with curiosity and the three of them watched the new egg as Arceus put the last pieces together as a secret that only it knows about. The creature within will help create and maintain the life. At once the egg rocks, cracks, and then shatters. The shell pieces fall to the floor this time. Where the egg lay are three two tailed creatures, one Yellow one Blue, and one Red. Arceus has seen these before, but it is still a shock that they all came from the same egg. It pulls the shell up, converting it back into energy and gave the creatures three amplifiers with it; one on their heads and two on each of their tails. The three creatures light up as their powers manifest and Arcues draws them over to it as it did with the first of its children.
The other three looked on at the new arrivals curiously, poking at them in Palkia’s case. The three … Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf, as they are called in the universes before, respond in kind as all six explore themselves and Arceus itself.
It keeps it just to them for a time, making sure that the new trio of creations grow into their powers, as Emotions Willpower and Knowledge are tricky if not handled well.
Uxie almost wiped the minds of those around it by opening its eyes, and, after that mild incident seems terrified to open them again. It claims it will be blind, but this seems too harsh a punishment for something it does naturally. Arceus teaches it how to use its knowledge gathering and abilities of the mind to see beyond the need of sight. It is happy again with this discovery, and even more so when it finds it can share the memories it collects.
The six of them play and learn, and Arcues watches the void thin. It’s Secret skill it gave the three new creatures is already paying off, as their very presence and being makes the universe fertile. The circumstances are now right for true creation to begin.
It takes the three smaller children, and the Three larger and found a space in the proverbial epicenter of the new life filled universe.
This would do.
Palkia moves first, creating things on its own. It has seen what is to come in its travels, and creates a light, with a little help from Arcues itself, as the creature was still a bit young. It easily pushes the new ‘sun’ back into a proper spot, farther away, so it would not sear its family. It returns, eager to see what happens next..
Giratina moves, and Arceus assists it in creating a long, serpentine creature. The three smaller creatures pull at its form, giving it a more regal appearance. Arceus seals it in an egg, breathing life to it. The egg shatters and the shell fragments vanish into the life force around them. This is startling as that has never happened before. They focus on this new creature, a Rayquaza. It spins it’s long, serpentine body, coiling in patterns as the markings on it glow. It creats a bubble of atmosphere, a substance made from the life force around them all that was different from the stagnant dead air of nothing which permeates the open void. The six enter this bubble, and Arceus breaths deep of the life giving substance.
It feels wonderful.
Griatina is eager to continue, and they create two more creatures, one red, one blue. The small three continue to add their bits of ideas, making them complete creatures.
