The rain pattered against the broad leaf and dripped down to splash against the oversaturated earth. She pulled herself closer to the drenched plant. Dusk was past and the world was dark and made of shadows. Shadows punctuated by the plips of heavy rain.
She did not know how she ended up under the plant. She did not know how she ended up so cold. Everything happened so quickly and now, here she was, hidden in the darkness, cold and wet. The small creature let out a soft, low trill and shut her eyes. Cool tendrils of mist curled up along the stem of her shelter and over her arms and legs. She felt the chill and curled into as tight of a ball as she could manage. It wasn’t too bad, alone in the rain. No matter how miserable it got, there was always a chance the sun would shine tomorrow.
