Medieval & Ancient Armor from the SWADE Core Rules does not provide an armor bonus against the personal weapons typically used in the Sprawl. All of the drawbacks of encumbrance still apply to the character wearing the armor if they do not meet the Minimum STR requirements of the armor. Medieval & Ancient Armor can still be manufactured in the current age and provides its full protection against any Medieval Weapons listed in the SWADE Core Rules.
Modern & Futuristic Armor from the SWADE Core Rules does not provide bonus armor against the types of personal ballistic weapons typically used in the Sprawl. The Ballistic Protection property of these armor types (as indicated by an asterix in their description) only works against Modern Firearms in the SWADE Core Rules. Modern & Futuristic Armor is often manufactured in the current age.
Reflex Armor in both the Light and Heavy varieties is composed of a combination of anti-ballistic mesh and non-Newtonian shear-hardening gels that become rigid under impact. The two grades of armor differ only in thickness. Light Reflex armor can look like any rough fabric. Heavy Reflex armor looks like motorcycle gear. Any variety of Reflex Armor only provides half of its bonus against laser weapons.
Hardshell Armor in the Light, Heavy, and Assault varieties is non-concealable, rigid, and extremely durable. Hardshell Armor is the only type of personal armor that can benefit from the various exosuit upgrades.
Shields add to a character’s Parry as shown below. Cover subtracts from ranged attacks from the front and shielded side (attacks from the rear or unprotected side ignore Cover).
Any of the above armors can receive further Enhancements. Installing the Armor Enhancement takes a successful Repair roll and one hour for every $500 in cost of the enhancement. A Raise on the Repair roll reduces the time by half. On a Failure, you simply lose time and can try again. A Critical Failure means the enhancement is irreparably damaged and must be bought again.
Armor Enhancements do not increase the Minimum STR required for the armor it is attached to.
