Disk Usage Management

DISK PARTITION

• 1. During the installation

     1. Windows 6 (Vista)

     2. Windows 7

        1. Select "Custom (Advanced)" in "Install Windows" window

• • • 1. Selecting "New" or "Extend" will prompt the user to configure partition size(s)

         1. Configure partition sizes for each partition(s) and click "Apply"

         2. Format any new partitions by selecting the partition and by clicking "Format"

      2. Click "Next" button to proceed

• • 1. Windows 8

       1. Procedure is same as Windows 7

• 1. After the installation

     1. Go to "My Computer"

     2. Go to "Disk Management" from right click menu

  2. NOTES

• • 1. "System" partition indicates a partition on which the OS is installed

    2. "Primary" partition indicates a main partition for file storage

TEMPORARY FILES DESIGNATION

• 1. Temporary System Files

     1. Go to "My Computer"

     2. Right-click on "Computer"

     3. Select "Manage"

     4. Click on "Advanced System Settings" option in the "System" window

     5. Click on "Environment Variables" button in the "System Properties" window

     6. Assign new locations for temporary user files under "User variables for ---"

        1. Double-click on the variable "TEMP" to enter new location

        2. Double-clock on the variable "TMP" to enter new location

     7. Assign new locations for temporary system files under "System variables"

• • • 1. Double-click on the variable "TEMP" to enter new location

      2. Double-clock on the variable "TMP" to enter new location

• 2. Temporary Internet Files

  3. Navigate in this website: Programs (Software) > Internet Browsers

USER FILES DESIGNATION

• • 1. Run "My Computer"

    2. Go to "C:\Users\" and open the user directory for your Windows user-name

    3. Select all folders inside your "username" directory (Ctrl + A)

    4. Move the directories to a designated location in another partition

       1. Cut the folders by (Ctrl + X)

       2. Paste the folders by (Ctrl + V)

    5. NOTE: do not cut and paste the folders from "Desktop" location

• • • 1. "Username" folder included in the "Desktop" are smart shortcuts

      2. "Username" folder included in the "Desktop" are the real directories
