A Framework for Task Design

The TeCoLa Task Design Framework stems from the finding that Task Based Language Teaching (TBLT) theory and practice often overlooks the task design process and the psychological-motivational aspect of language tasks. It aims at providing teachers with a model they can use to make their language tasks more mentally acceptable and motivating fort heir learners. On the basis of a thorough study of literature on the topic and practical experience of many language teachers, three parameters have been identified as potentially impacting on task acceptation and motivation in the context of telecollaboration, namely activity type, degree of autonomy and basic psychological needs the result of the type addressess. Apart from that, it is of course always important to take into account context and pedagogy when designing tasks. On this webpage, you can find presentations about the Task Design Framework as well as the final report on the development and outcome of the Framework.

Mind you: this Framework is not supposed to be a set of guidelines, but rather an inspirational framework from which you can take what you need to make your telecollaboration tasks more mentally acceptable and motivating for your leaners. We truly hope it inspires you!
