Things pick up when you're not paying attention. Friday morning I biked to work--have been biking to and from work for several weeks, now--and got a call that Rebecca's father had suffered a stroke. Biked back home, Rebecca packed for me, and we drove out to Green Bay to see him in the hospital. It turned out to be a minor stroke and his recovery over the weekend was profound.
While I was gone, my workplace changed its name and moved into a new building. I showed up today in the middle of an all-staff meeting about the new vision, new techniques, and new digs. We were released and went to setting up our workstations. I'm no longer by the graphics designers but am off by myself in another (whiter, more spacious and better lit) corner. I set up my little library of editorial books, logged in, and... sat around. Over lunch I mailed some letters, incl. a postcard to the People's Republic of China. I also stopped in at Taco John's, which I haven't done in forever.
Rebecca's only now (6:30 PM) coming back from Green Bay. I was emotionally wrought to leave her and didn't enjoy my night alone--and I have another one, as she won't be in until midnight--so we see where my true feelings lie. I can make noises about the life I left behind and the options that are no longer mine, but deep down she is my happiness and I really love my life with her. Just so long as that's clear.
I walked out to drop off a manga at Hosmer. This book is way overdue, one thing after another has prevented us from reading it or turning it in. As it happened, I read it while walking to the library, killing two birds with one stone. Three: I also got a long walk in. Now I'm going to mix a citrus-based drink and try to focus on cleaning up the kitchen. I'd also like to write at least one letter tonight before I go to bed.
