Introduction
The Prairie River begins in Branch County, MI but becomes paddlable below Prairie Lake in St Joseph County, MI. This is a small meandering river prone to tree fall blocking the river, but is very pretty and remote in areas. The water is generally very clear making it easy to see the freshwater mussels on the sandy river bottom as you paddle along. The map below contains 9 access sites and about 32 miles of river to paddle.
