Having used DC step-up converters on several projects, I appreciate their size, weight, and utility. A common commercial unit (intended for capacitor charging) is widely used to power tube circuits. Its low cost makes it attractive, but it has some stability issues that are described in the
GAD book, and it’s become hard to find from local US sources. Shipment from Asian sources is taking 2-3 months. I recently waited over 100 days for an order. To ensure access to step-up converters in the future, I decided to design a converter suited for my needs as an alternative, should supply problems persist.
