Jubilee Cottage

Jubilee Cottage was built by Tom Rowland in 1935 when he was the owner of the whole property of St. Monica’s. Harry Rolls was the first tenant of Jubilee Cottage. Harry was born in 1911 in Marnhull and in 1928 he married Edith Baverstock. He and Edith moved into Jubilee Cottage in 1935 with their two small daughters but that same year they separated and Harry remarried Ethel White. He and Ethel lived in the house for many years. He was a fine carpenter and after the War he built several bungalows in the village. “As the house had no view of the road, his wife used to sit on the low wall by the Village Hall on summer evenings, knitting and watching the traffic go by.” When Beatrice Rowland died in 1953, she left Jubilee cottage and its garden to Harry Frank Rolls, the tenant and he continued to live there until 1967 when he sold it to John Albert Hanks and his wife Doreen Evelyn Mary Hanks.

By July 17th 1967, Jubilee Cottage was in the ownership of John and Doreen Hanks and in 1968 they were living there. On 21st June 1971 they sold it to Marion Irene Williams who in 1977 sold it to Eric John Stuart Tandy and his wife Marguerite Phyllis Tandy. In 1982 it was owned by Mr. Fry and in 1985 it was bought by Mr & Mrs Shaw. On February 27th 1997, it was sold for £67,000 and a year later, on February 10th 1998 for £85,000. On August 21st 1998, Andy and Helen Lunn bought Jubilee Cottage for £128,500. In 2002 Andy Lunn added an extension to the cottage where the garage had been, making it a 3-bedroomed property.
