Will of John Williams Onslow Esquire March 11th 1779 (proved November 23rd 1779)

This is the last Will and Testament of me John Williams Onslow of the parish of Spetisbury in the County of Dorset Esquire I give devise and bequeath all and singular my Manors Messuages Farms Lands Tenements and Hereditaments whatsoever situate lying and being in the County of Sussex and in or near Spetisbury aforesaid in the said County of Dorset with their and every of their Rights Members and Appurtenances and all my Estate and Interest therein unto and to the use of my dear and affectionate Wife Charlotte Maria Williams Onslow and her Assigns for and during the term of her natural life and from and after her decease I give devise and bequeath the same premises and every part thereof unto and to the use of my oldest son John Williams his Heirs and Assigns for ever subject nevertheless to and charged and chargeable with the raising and payment of the sum of four thousand pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid and payable to my youngest son James Williams within six months next after the decease of my said dear Wife together with Interest for the said Sum of four thousand pounds at and after the rate of four pounds per centum per annum to be computed from the day of the decease of my said Wife untill the same shall be raised and paid to my said son James Williams as aforesaid Also I give devise and bequeath all the Rest Residue and Remainder of my Manors Messuages Farms Lands Tenements and Hereditaments whatsoever situate lying and being in the County of Surrey or elsewhere in England and all my Estate and Interest therein unto and to the use of my oldest son the said John Williams his Heirs and Assigns for ever subject nevertheless to and charged and chargeable with the raising and payment of the Sum of five hundred pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid and payable to my said dear Wife Charlotte Maria Williams Onslow within three months next after my decease together with Interest for the same in the …. time after the rate of four pounds per centum per annum And subject also to and charged and chargeable with the raising and payment of the further sum of four thousand pounds of like lawful money of Great Britain to be paid and payable to my said Son James Williams within six months next after my decease together with Interest for the said last mentioned Sum of four thousand pounds at and after the rate of four pounds per centum per annum to be computed from the day of my decease untill the same shall be raised and paid to my said Son James Williams as aforesaid And I do hereby expressly declare that the several provisions hereby made to and for my said Son James Williams are by me intended and shall be paid to and accepted and arrived? by him in lieu of and as a full compensation and satisfaction for all and every the provision and provisions Sum and Sums of Money whatsoever heretofore made intended or …..ed to or for the use and benefit of my said Son James Williams in and by my Marriage Settlement or otherwise howsoever Also I give and bequeath unto my said dear Wife all her Jewels Rings Watch and other Ornaments of the person And I also give and bequeath unto her my said dear Wife all the Household Goods and Furniture Plate Pictures and Linen with all the provisions and Liquors of every kind Horses Cattle Coach and Carriages Implements of Husbandry and Gardening Hay Corn Straw and Outdoor Stock of every kind in about or belonging to my Dwelling House and Grounds at the time of my decease to and for her own use and benefit absolutely And I give and bequeath all the Rest and Residue of my Estate and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever (after payment of my just Debts funeral Expences and the Charges of proving and attending the Execution of this my Will) unto my said Son John Williams his Executors and Administrators and Assigns to and for his and their own use and benefit absolutely And I do constitute and appoint my said dear Wife Charlotte Maria Williams Onslow and my said Son John Williams to be Executrix and Executor of this my Will and hereby revoking all former and other Wills by me at any time heretofore made I do publish and declare this to be and contain my last Will and Testament whereof I the said John Williams Onslow have to this my last Will and Testament contained in this and the preceding sheet of paper to the first sheet subscribed my name and to this last sheet subscribed my name and affixed my seal the eleventh day of March in the Year of Our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy nine John Williams Onslow

Signed sealed published and declared by the said testator John Williams Onslow Esquire and for his last Will and testament in the presence of us who in his presence and at his request have subscribed our names as witnesses thereto

This Will was proved at London the twenty third day of November in the Year of Our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy nine before the Worshipful ……. Colm? Durant Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the Right Worshipful Peter Calvert Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of John Williams Onslow Esquire (by mistake in the Will called John Williams) the Son of the deceased and one of the Executors named in the said Will to whom Administration was granted of all and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased having been first sworn duly to administer power reserved of making the life grant to Charlotte Maria Williams Onslow Widow the Relict of the said deceased and the other Executor named in the said Will when she shall apply for the same
