Welcome to the South London Renal SpR Resident Doctor page
This website provides our renal resident doctors with simple and direct information that really matters. There will be general information about training days, dates of ARCPs, how to become a consultant and a resource bank of varied OOP experience including fellowships, management courses, teaching opportunities and research funding ideas.
The faculty (South London Renal Medicine & Training Faculty, previously known as the STC) and Shared Services (previously known as the London Deanery; click here for more details) frequently need to pass on information to resident doctors. It is therefore very important that your email address is accurate. Give your personal email address to your SpR representatives as soon as possible – do not use work email addresses as these tend to change every year leading to people missing mail-shots.
We aim to provide you with uptodate information regarding the shape of training. Renal Medicine as we know it in South London was 5 years of training (3 years of renal and 2 years GIM) for dual accreditation. The structure of training is in the process of change encompassing 6 monthly placements of GIM and Renal with 1 month of acute medicine and 11 months of renal in the final year. More information about this is provided in The Rotation . There is ongoing discussion regarding how this would work. We aim to update you with all information from STC meetings and ensure your concerns and questions are heard clearly and loudly.
Our curriculum has now moved to a CiP model (Competencies in Practice); We aim to liaise with TPDs and local leads to ensure our day to day training opportunities and training days allow us to the best chance to achieve this.
It is important that the we hear of any problems or suggestions that resident doctors might have in order to improve the rotation. The best way to have your say would be to contact one of the SpR representatives on the committee via the generic email: sthamesstr@gmail.com. Otherwise, contact one of the Training Programme Directors or your local consultant representative.
