Renal trainees are expected to attend at least one management course during their training. This should NOT be an online course.
Recognised courses include the Keele Clinical Management Course, which is a 2/3-day course, with the stated aim of, "equipping StRs with the leadership and management skills necessary to make the transition to independent specialist practice at consultant level". A link to the Keele University website can be found here.Â
The good news for those that do not want to leave London and go all the way up to Staffordshire, is that most trusts/postgraduate centres run the Keele Management Course annually. It is suggested that you make contact with the postgraduate centre as soon as you start a new job in order to get a provisional spot, as places on these types of courses usually go very quickly!
The BMA website also has information on a range of non-clinical courses (management, mentoring, teaching, and communication).
