Let's start with DETECTIVE STORIES, and the most famous of them all… What's his name again?

Conan Doyle based his famous creation, detective Sherlock Holmes, on one of his professors at Edinburgh Medical School called Dr Joseph Bell.

Conan Doyle (1859-1930) proved to be a rather peculiar character himself. For example, when he graduated from medical school and obtained a Master of Surgery degree, he drew a humorous sketch of himself receiving his diploma, with the caption: "Licensed to Kill".

Over his lifetime, he travelled a lot, married twice, had several children, lost a son during WWI, practiced as a doctor, helped during wartime, pointed out cases of misjudgement to Scotland Yard, got attracted to spiritualism and the occult...
