ELEPHANT, a short film by Alan Clarke (1989)

"It is said that for those who live in Northern Ireland, the troubles are as easy to ignore as an elephant in your living-room." The subject: pitiless sectarian murders have become almost a routine feature of news from Northern Ireland. The film shows a succession of structurally-similar, seemingly motiveless male shootings, without music, without commentary, largely without dialogue, and without explanation. A style (use of steady cam, filming people walking) which has influenced many a film director ever since.
