The diffraction spot profile from a finite-size crystal composed of N1, N2 and N3 atoms along x, y, and z is expressed by Laue functions L(x)L(y)L(z) as follows.
The graph below shows L(x) for N1= 10 (blue) and N1= 40 (red).
The red profile is sharper than the blue profile. The maximum of the Laue function appears where the denominator of the Laue Func. becomes 0.
The graph below shows the denominator(gray) and the numerators(blue and green) of the Laue funcs. shown above.
At the position where the gray func. becomes 0, the blue and green functions also become 0.
However, the speed to become 0 (dy/dx) is different. blue curve slowly reach to 0, and the green curve rapidly approaches to 0.
