Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities

Below are some of the upcoming volunteer opportunities organized by Shoals Master Gardeners and our local Extension Offices. Don't forget to count and log your hours!

CALVARY LEARNING CENTER: Work with the kiddos at Calvary to grow flowers and vegetables and to show them how rewarding gardening can be! Join us on Thursdays from 9:00am to 10:30am: June 29, July 6, July 13, July 20, July 27. See the online calendar for each week's program.

THE HEALING PLACE: The Healing Place, Center for Grief and Loss for local children and families, is looking for some Master Gardeners to volunteer during the summer program: "We have Terrific Tuesdays every Tuesday in June and July (except week of July 4th) & we would love for a few gardeners to come talk to kids about the healing power of plants and help kids plant seeds or plants to take home one day!"

MASTER GARDENER HELPLINE: We need volunteers to answer gardening questions from across the state! Shoals Master Gardeners is responsible for the following dates for the entire state: Apr 6, May 11, June 15, July 20, Aug 24, Sept 28, Nov 2, Dec 7. To get started, watch our Helpline training videos and contact Jayne Luetzow to sign up.

BE A SPEAKER FOR THE ALABAMA SMART YARDS WEBINAR: We are looking for speakers for the Alabama Smart Yards webinar series, which takes place each Wednesdays at 1:00 pm. Master Gardeners are welcome to present on a wide range of horticulture topics, and to share their expertise with a wider audience. Interested? Contact Dani Carroll.

GROW MORE GIVE MORE: Donate your leftover produce from your garden to help feed others. Whether you donate to a food bank, donation center, or to a neighbor or friend in need, every pound of food you give helps to fight food insecurity in our communities. Remember to count the volunteer hours you spend growing your vegetables and record how many pounds of food you donate. Find more information and donation sites here.
