Dee Hubbert has requested a need for clean up our storage sheds! We need to take all the wood planks and sell them or something since we won't be needing them anymore for our plant sale. Just a lot of moving and cleaning out so we'll need a few strong backs!

Workday: Ivy Green, March 16, 2019
Please join us for a workday at Ivy Green this Saturday, March 16, 2019 , starting at 9:00. Our primary task will be to clean out and remove the perennials in the butterfly garden that we planted around 10 years ago. The garden has an abundance of red canna lilies, blue asters, bronze fennel, penta, salvia, and pink cone flowers. We will replace the perennials with low maintenance shrubs at the next workday. The workday coordinator is Betty Balch. Bring your pruners, digging tools (garden forks work best), and pails or bags for rescued plants. Please park across the street from the front entrance or in the back of the property behind the stage.
Work Day: Pat's Place Community Garden
First workday of 2019 accomplished a lot! The raised beds at Pat's Place Community Gardens on Veterans Drive got cleaned out and prepared for the 2019 growing season. The rains held off long enough that about 2/3rd of the beds were prepped. We will revisit this project soon! Thanks to John Norton for his leadership on this workday.
John Norton directs the decommissioning of the “Community Gardens” at the Extension office. Heavy equipment made short work of a very large job and easily lifted and hauled away the bed boxes.
Recently Master Gardener Intern Dwight James ask the City of Tuscumbia if he could plant some flowers and maintain the bed at the entrance to Spring Park, what started as a planter being maintained turned into the letters on the sign being repainted. And then the city showed up and installed a new Stop Sign! Watch the progress and growth of the beautiful marigolds. Even those world famous Spring Park geese seem to enjoy the refurbished entrance to the park.
Master Gardener intern Dwight James started the transition of removing the dead Spring & Summer plantings of Marigolds to preparing and planting the Fall & Winter planting of Majestic Giants variety of pansies.....
John Norton, Tony Langley and Dwight James hold a morning clean up at the “Community Gardens” at the Extension office.....all of the walkways are now clear and have been weedeated and excess residue hauled away.
SMG volunteers met at the Tennessee Valley Art Association Museum of Art building May 23, 2019 to "boldly go where no Master Gardener has gone before!" The large crew made short work of the aged bed bringing them in to the 21st century. Lisa Maples coordinated this crew that included several interns. It was an excellent project that was enjoyed throughly. The before/after photos show what a major improvement was made. And the TVAA Director, Mary Settle Cooney, was thrilled and was so sincerely appreciative of the work done.
The most fantastic crew ever! Thanks bunches to each of you.

Before / After
We worked on May 24, 2019 (the 17th conflicted with the SMG trip to the botanic gardens and Lynn Wilsons great grandson’s graduation from kindergarten). It started out hot and got hotter. Priority #1 was build three 6'x3' raised beds and fill with compost. Mission accomplished! Thanks to Cam Jones for her excellent leadership and for bringing her hardworking family along to help.
