Stewardship Month is Here!!
This is the month when we plan for the year ahead in our church. As we do in our
individual families, we as a church family plan what we will do, how we will do it, and
how we will support our goals. What resources do we already have, and what resources
do we need to enact our plans?
Our membership vows include PRAYERS, PRESENCE, GIFTS, and SERVICE. As you
prepare for making your pledge later this month, please pray about how each of these
vows can apply to you.
Please PRAY for our church family and its future. If you already pray for our church, are
there ways you can focus your prayers toward doing more?
If you aren’t attending regularly, how might you plan to increase your PRESENCE in
the future. It is in community with one another that we learn and grow as Christians. We
make indelible bonds with fellow believers that can help us through our difficult times
and celebrate with us during our joyful times. Being surrounded by those who share our
beliefs can help us to walk with the Lord when we aren’t certain which path to choose or
help us to stay on the right path when things are difficult.
How can your GIFTS be used to further the work of our Lord? By sharing what the Lord
has provided for us with others, how can we grow spiritually, while enriching the lives of
others? Our GIFTS help us to help others. Not only do we support our activities, but we
maintain our building as a meeting place for ourselves and others.
Our fourth vow is that of SERVICE. Consider the things we do for others in our
community and beyond through our community breakfasts, preparing lunches for the
Salvation Army lunch program, our donations to the food pantry; our rummage sales,
where community members can purchase what they need, no matter what their
circumstances; our work with UMCOR when natural disasters arise; the Backpack
Program throughout the school year; the space we provide to community organizations
for meetings and gatherings; the blood drives that we hold during the year; and the
support that we give to members of our own congregation during their times of need. If
you have ever worked on one of these projects or benefited from one, you will
remember how it made you feel.
Please consider all of these things and others as you plan your pledge for next year, so
we can continue to do all the things we do for others and for ourselves. What can each
of us do to move forward as a community of believers? Yours in Christ, Carol
