First impression

The state tournament is officially underway with teams in every group playing over the first couple days as part of the first round. Several players have already made their mark with notable performances to start their state tournament run, and NJ Advance Media has highlighted the top 50 from the first round. Abby Agostino, Hightstown

Agostino produced seven points in Hightstown’s 16-9 first round win over Manalapan in Central Jersey, Group 4. With five goals and two assists, Agostino helped the Rams jump out to a 9-1 lead at the half and roll to the win.

Ruby Anyanwu, Pennsauken

Anyanwu led Pennsauken with a team-high three goals, one of two players with a multi-goal game, in a one-goal win over Steinert in the Central Jersey, Group 3 first round.

Caroline Bailey, Cinnaminson

Bailey had five goals and one assist in Cinnaminson’s 14-10 win over Robbinsville in the Central Jersey, Group 2 first round. Cinnaminson trailed by a goal at the half, but rode the play of Bailey to score 10 goals in the second half.

Meaghan Baker, Our Lady of Mercy

Our Lady of Mercy scored seven goals in each half to emerge with a 14-8 win over Gateway in the South Jersey, Group 1 first round. Baker headlined that effort with a game-high five goals, the most Baker has scored in a game this season.

Lola Bakhadyrova, South Brunswick

Bakhadyrova came up clutch time and time again for South Brunswick, ripping in 15 saves in a 10-9 first round win over Jackson Memorial in Central Jersey, Group 4.
