The Waku Waku After School Program

Children who attend the Taira School often go to the Waku Waku facilities after school hours. The Sasebo Chapter donated iPads and apps for these special needs students. The children, who have difficulty speaking, can communicate with their teachers by touching icons on the display. The program then repeats the words aloud. Staff members have told us that the children's ability to speak had improved greatly since they began using the iPads. In 2019, we donated three more iPads and a pony swing set.  In 2022 we voted to provide funds for a paved parking lot. The pebbled driveway they currently have is difficult for children in wheelchairs to navigate.
