What is the DAR?

The Daughters of the American Revolution, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting historic preservation, education, and patriotism.

As one of the most inclusive genealogical societies in the United States, DAR boasts 190,000 members in 3,000 chapters across the U.S. and internationally. Currently, overseas chapters are engaged in the work of the National Society in 11 countries and one U.S. territory (Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Guam).  Any woman 18 years or older - regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background - who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution, is eligible for membership. Among other projects, the Sasebo chapter does volunteer work to assist people affected by the March 2011 Tohoku earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear disaster.

For more information about our chapter, please contact our regent, Diana Lantz.
