New Pilots

Information for New pilots after you have learned

    • Firstly do not forget to Contact Us so we can help you
    • After graduation you will have become a member of the national HG/PG/ML body SAFA or RAAus depending on your chosen aircraft
        • SAFA (formerly HGFA) is the national body overseeing HG, PG, and PHG, PPG in Australia -- http://www.safa.asn.au
        • You will pay a Federal Fee to SAFA to cover Insurance and SAFA administration.
        • The SAFA is responsible for
            • Interfacing with the Civil Aviation authority (CASA)
            • Obtaining Insurance for members
            • Regulating Schools and Training systems,
            • The SAFA web pages have resource links to schools through out Australia -
    • You will need to join your State Association
        • For SA & NT pilots the SAHPGA Inc is your state body
            • for HG, PG, PHG, PPG , PL, ML,
            • you have already found the public SAHPGA Pages, but we also have members only pages with sites and other information which we can provide access to you when you become a member,
        • You will pay a RDL/ state fee of approximately $70 -
            • the RDL /state fee (as per the last 20 years) is payed when you pay the SAFA membership
            • The RDL is redistributed back to the states so you do not have to do this separately
            • You do have to nominate SAHPGA Inc as your local club in the SAFA online forms
            • You do have to contact us so we can help you.
            • Payment of this RDL fee is considered by SAHPGA inc to be payment of membership.
        • SAHPGA is responsible for basically anything that the association/club members want to support and representing you in all aspects this includes such things as
            • Interfacing with SAFA
            • Maintaining and Fostering State HG PG NL ML
            • Being the Interface to state systems and departments for example
                • CASA enquiries
                • eg Airspace infringements
                • State department Enquiries
                • Council Enquiries
                • Police Inquires about accidents
                • Being the interface at the local level
                • Dealing with developments eg
                • wind turbines on sites,
                • landowner insurance queries
                • Dealing with landowners
                • Dealing with HG/PG/ML enquiries
            • Providing these pages etc
            • Maintaining your sites eg
                • leasing , purchase, regulation etc
                • organising site maintenance eg
                • roads, weeds, gates , locks, fences etc
            • Managing your funds
                • paying your site leases,
                • assisting with your events
                • Providing social / flying related
                • BBQs
                • Touring events
                • Sponsoring safety events
                • First Aid nights
                • Parachute pack nights
            • Basically anything that the association/club members want to support and representing you in all aspects
    • You will need to join your local club
        • The function of a local club are similar to the state association but at the more local level
        • In SA & NT the state association also serves as the local club because we are small and heavily centred around Adelaide
        • However I would also encourage you to join or start a local club if you are very remote from Adelaide, please ask SAHPGA if we can help you in this endeavour
            • eg Alice springs and Darwin have local clubs but their membership fluctuates and may not be currently active
