To learn HG it would be recommended that you start with what is called a novice glider or sometimes termed a "floater". These gliders, are slower and more easily managed than there high performance counter parts. However because of there sweet handling characteristics they are an excellent glider to use for the whole of your flying life ( many people keep them for that reason, self included).
- Cost To Buy New Equipment
- Buying new equipment is nice but not essential, if you do then
- A shiny brand new glider would set you back about 4K- 5K dollars.
- A totally new harness would be about $800 to 1K$.
- Remember that a glider and a harness will give you enough to fly for a long time. As your flying becomes more extensive you may wish to purchase more equipment
- A parachute should be first on your list, brand new this is about $500 to $1000, most people often think about buying one after their first really high flight
- Instrumentation such as altimeters variometers, gps systems, radios, etcetera ( you can go to town on these) but they will not initially be needed,
- Always remember that to fly, these are secondary needs
-
- Cost To But Second Hand
- Buying Second hand can save you money, it is recommended that you buy from well known dealers or from the advice of more knowledgeable pilots
- A second hand glider may be 1K to almost new price depending on condition age
- A second hand harness can be $100 to $500 depending on type and condition
