Canada Pension Plan Post-Retirement Disability Benefit
The Post-Retirement Disability Benefit is a new benefit that is available as of January 1, 2019. It is intended for Canada Pension Plan (CPP) retirement pension beneficiaries found to be disabled but not eligible for a disability pension due to being CPP retirement pension beneficiaries for more than 15 months. Applicants who have made sufficient contributions may be eligible for this benefit in addition to their retirement pension.

Need to be under 65 years old, and not receiving any retirement benefits. You will receive CPP-d until you reach 65 years of age. Unlike ODSP once you are accepted for CPP-d there are no medical reviews, it is permanent, and you become a member of a prescribed class. However, the test is more strict, but there is no financial eligibility requirements. There are no medical benefits, unlike ODSP. You do no have to live in Ontario or even Canada to receive this benefits. CPP-d unlike ODSP is taxable.
If you are on ODSP and get accepted for CPP-d you may have your ODSP taken away. If this is the case you can apply for extended health care benefits.
CPP-d may also give your children access to financial supports.

Denial of CPP-d
You have 90 days to ask for a reconsideration of the decision. This is sent to Service Canada. Then you wait for decision. Service Canada will contact the application and the doctor in regards to the application, ODSP does not do this.
Appeal
The deadline to request an appeal is 90 days from the date you receive the reconsideration decision. The appeal is filed with the Social Security Tribunal, and the appeal form is sent directly to this them.

Switching from CPP to CPP-D
CPP post-retirement disability benefit
If you currently get the monthly CPP retirement pension, you could receive the Canada Pension Plan post-retirement disability benefit if you:
are 60 to 65
contributed enough to the CPP
have a mental or physical disability that regularly stops you from doing any type of substantially gainful work
have a disability that is long-term and of indefinite duration, or is likely to result in death
have been receiving the CPP retirement pension for more than 15 months or become disabled after starting to receive the retirement pension

If you are denied CPP-d, you have 90 days from when you are notified of the decision to ask Service Canada for a review of the decision. You may wish to provide additional medical information for the review. If you are denied again, you may appeal that decision to the Social Services Tribunal (SST). You have 90 days from the date of the reconsideration decision to make an appeal. All the documents that you want to rely on at the hearing should be submitted 30 days before the hearing. If you are denied CPP-d at the SST, there are further court appeals.
